Is an AI Girlfriend Safe?
The real risks are not hackers in the chat, but your card statement, auto-renewals, what you upload and what stays on the server. Here is how each brand handles them.

"Is it safe?" usually means four things: will anyone see my chats, what will show on my bank statement, can I delete everything, and can I get out of the subscription. We answered each from the brands' own privacy, help and terms pages (checked 2 Nov 2026). These are their claims; nobody outside the company can audit them, so the safest habit is to share as little as possible.
1. Your chats and data
Every app stores your messages on its servers so the character can remember them. Several brands make specific claims: OurDream AI and Secrets AI say chats are end-to-end encrypted; Candy AI says data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher) and handled under GDPR; heyGF says chat history is never shared or sold; Xotic AI says chats are never shown publicly and your characters stay private unless you publish them. Dondi AI claims a "zero-log policy", which we cannot verify.
What you can control:
- Sign up with a separate email. My Dream Companion even says a pseudonym and a burner address are fine.
- Don't put your real name, workplace, address or face into chats or character profiles.
- Never upload someone else's photo. OurDream AI blocks reference photos because of deepfake risk; Fanfinity allows only a profile picture; Lovel says uploaded images are processed for the chat and not stored or used for adult content.

3. Deleting your account and data
- OurDream AI: account deletion is permanent and removes generations, unpublished characters and chat history.
- DarLink AI: delete in the app or via support; permanent and irreversible under its terms.
- Xotic AI: Settings → Account; permanent.
- FantasyGF: on request with identity verification; data is deleted or irreversibly anonymised except where the law requires keeping it.
- Lovescape: tools to delete characters, chats and content, plus a "delete my account" help article.
- FLIRTcam.AI: registered users can delete their account and data.
- Swipey: you can view and delete the character's memories of you.
4. Renewals, refunds and the second bill
The most common complaint is not privacy but billing. Three things to check before paying:
- Renewal price. DreamGF's first payment is half the renewal ($12.99 then $25.98 a month; $44.28 then $88.56 a year). Candy AI's 12-month plan renews at the same $47.88.
- Auto-renewal. Kupid AI passes and Fanfinity plans are paid once and do not renew; Promptchan plans paid with crypto or G2A run for a fixed period. Everything else renews until you cancel.
- Refunds. DarLink AI generally gives none; Lovel only within 24 hours and only if you haven't meaningfully used the plan; Xotic AI refunds unused XOT packs within 14 days; Lovescape's chips and Fanfinity purchases are non-refundable.
5. Age checks and content rules
All of these services are for adults 18+, and most show an age confirmation when you arrive. Swipey goes further, using a third-party age-assurance provider with liveness checks where the law requires it. Good services also forbid content involving minors and real people: Xotic AI blocks both, Lovel states zero tolerance for minor-like content, and Spicier's moderation monitors sensitive topics. Avoid any app that does the opposite.
6. Unofficial apps and copies
Most AI girlfriend services run in the browser and are installed as a web app from their own site; OurDream AI, heyGF, Lovescape and GoLove say there is nothing to download. GirlfriendGPT offers its own Android APK on its download page. Be wary of "mod" or "free premium" versions from other sources: they are not from the brand and may carry malware.
Where you live matters

Are AI girlfriend apps safe?
The established ones are run by registered companies, encrypt connections and let you delete your account. They are reasonably safe if you use a separate email, check how they bill and renew, and never share real personal details or other people's photos.
Will an AI girlfriend app show on my bank statement?

Can I get a refund?
Rarely. DarLink AI says refunds are generally not offered; Lovel refunds only within 24 hours and only if you haven't really used the benefits; Xotic AI refunds unused XOT packs within 14 days; crypto payments are generally non-refundable.
Is it legal to use an AI girlfriend in China?
